Buttercream Frostings
- is the one that we see as cake fillers or the common icing that we’re familiar of. Aside from the usual sugar, fats are added to this mixture. Simply mix sugar, liquid, margarine, vanilla and other flavorings. Beat mixture until you achieve the desired consistency.

Glazes
- is the simplest form of frosting that we may all know. This is the semi clear sugary substance that is coated on our classic donuts and cupcakes. Just combine sugar and water and that’s it. You can still add other flavors like milk or vanilla extract to make it creamier. You can also do this by melting chocolate.

Royal Icing Frost
-is a very common type of frosting and is very easy to do. Just mix powdered sugar, egg whites, vanilla and other added flavorings. Now since these are cupcakes and our children will most likely be the basic consumer, the health department advises us to use meringue powder instead of egg whites because of the salmonella outbreaks.

Cooked Frosting
- Basically cook flour and milk together, stir constantly until thick and then let cool. Use a double boiler for even and slow cooking. This type of frosting needs to be consumed within the first 24 hours because as they last longer, the frosting will lose its body and shape.

Whipped Cream Frosting
- is made from ready made heavy cream, sugar, flour and vanilla. You can also substitute cream cheese here. Once you have combined all the ingredients, mix thoroughly and chill, then beat well until you get that fluffy and smooth consistency.

Ganache
- At first you’ll think that Ganache is hard to do but in fact, it’s one of the easiest frostings to do not to mention really mouthwatering. Ganache consists of melted dark or semi-dark chocolate blended with heavy cream for that think frosty goodness. If you actually mix it thick enough, you can make truffles.

Fondant
- is again made from sugar, glucose and water. This is often being colored and being used as dough for cake/cupcake designs.

Gum paste
- is very similar with the texture of the fondant but it’s more elastic but breakable when hardened.

Marzipan
- is alike in texture and purpose of the fondant and gum paste but is made of sugar and ground almonds.
